Reynaldo Lara Perez Sr.

Reynaldo Lara Perez Sr. passed away peacefully on February 22, 2013 at home with his beloved wife of 62 years at his side. Born in 1920 in Marfa, Texas, Reynaldo, known to close family and friends as Ray, moved to California after joining the Army. Ray served his country proudly in WWII, being stationed in the Aleutian Islands and later serving in Italy. Married in 1950 to Carmen Aguirre, they moved to Napa with their 3 children where Ray worked for Wurz Ranches as the lead foreman for 6 years and later the Veteran’s Home in Yountville as the lead foreman for 20 years. Ray and Carmen raised their children and grand-children and established a wonderful life for themselves in Napa before moving to St. Helena where Ray worked as the head groundskeeper at the Vine and Fig Tree Farm. Ray and Carmen retired and moved back to Napa where they were surrounded by family. Ray had a love of dancing. He and Carmen would dance every opportunity they had and were often the center of any dance floor they stepped onto, even winning a first place prize for dancing the jitterbug. He also enjoyed gardening and both he and Carmen were blessed with quite the green thumb. He was a proud 50 year member of the American Legion in St. Helena. One of his true joys in life was being around babies and children who equally loved being the center of his attention. He was fortunate to have so many opportunities to share his loving sense of humor with his six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His strong character, sense of humor and smile will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife, Carmen Perez; son Reynaldo Perez Jr., granddaughter Nichole Peterson and her husband Brad, grandson Reynaldo Perez III, great-granddaughter Lyla Peterson (daughter of Nichole and Brad); son Ruben Perez and his wife Lynn, granddaughter Christina Perez, grandson Joseph Perez and his wife Rachael, great-grandson Corbon Perez (son of Joseph and Rachael); daughter Diana Rhinehart and her husband Steve, grandsons Stephen and Michael Rhinehart; son Kenneth Perez; brother Carlos; sister Mary; numerous nieces, nephews and their families in the central valley. He is preceded in death by his father Juan, mother Demetria, brother Tacho and sister Lucy. A service mass with rosary to remember Ray will be held on Friday March 1st, 2013 at 11am at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Yountville. Viewing will be on Thursday, February 28th, 2013 from 2-7pm at Claffey & Rota Funeral Home.
