Dr. Gertrudis C. Agcaoili

Our one of a kind aunt and family matriarch, Dr. Gertrudis C. Agcaoili, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023 in Vallejo, California. She was 91 years old. Gertrudis (known to friends as “Tita”) was born in the Philippines to Atty. Felix Agcaoili and his wife, Adelaida Cortes. She had 5 brothers and 2 older sisters. She studied medicine in the University of Santo Thomas with residencies in Pathology, Pediatrics and Infectious and Tropical Diseases. In 1972, she emigrated to New York where she established medical residency in Pathology and Psychiatry at the Jewish Memorial Hospital and Kingsbrook Jewish Memorial. In 1978, tired of the cold and wanting to be closer to family, she moved to California and worked as a psychiatrist at the Napa State Hospital. There, she worked in various departments and became the MOD (Medical Officer Of the Day) from 1992-2011. In 2011, at the age of 83, she retired after 33 years of service. Tita loved to travel and travelled every year only stopping when her physical ability became a handicap. She liked crossword puzzles, numerology and palmistry. “Hello Kitty” fascinated her. If you couldn’t figure out what gift to get her, anything “Hello Kitty” was a sure winner! She was a social butterfly and loved hosting parties and being with people. She sang Karaoke with the best of them. She kept abreast of current events and was sharp as a tack. With a twinkle in her eye, she liked telling people she was “well preserved!” She was deeply religious. She was a Eucharistic Minister and a choir member at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church. As a member of the FVVS (Faithful Victorious Virtuous Soldiers of Christ), she helped others in need. Tita was kind and generous to family and friends. She did not hesitate to offer financial assistance and/or moral support when needed. She donated to several charities and established educational scholarships to help further higher learning. She is survived by her nieces (Joanne Margallo, Jeanne Ancelet, Rita Lezama, Carina Leong, Joy Agcaoili, Geraldine Cuanzon and Victoria Suarez), nephews (Luis Agcaoili, Erwin Agcaoili, Gunnar Agcaoili, Gian Agcaoili), grand nieces (Nikki Margallo, Madeline Agcaoili. Gabriella Agcaoili) and grand nephews (Christopher Lezama, Matthew Lezama, Aaron Agcaoili, Jesus Agcaoili, Miki Cuanzon). A visitation will be held on Monday Oct. 30, 2023 at Claffey & Rota Funeral Home, 1975 Main St., Napa from 5:00-7:00 PM, with a Rosary recited at 6:00 PM. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023 at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, 981 Napa street, Napa, at 10:00 AM with burial at Tulocay Cemetery, 411 Coombsville Rd., Napa, at 11:15 AM. There will be a reception to follow.
