Sara Lou Pilkinton Haygood

Sara Lou Pilkinton Haygood passed peacefully on April 10 at Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa, California, after a sudden illness. She was born September 22, 1930, in Quincy, Florida, to Horace Lee Pilkinton and Mary Johnson Pilkinton. Sara grew up in the Florida panhandle area of the Gulf coast, where she graduated high school in Appalachicola and later worked at NAS Pensacola, where she met her husband, Gordon Boyle Haygood of Greenville, Alabama. In 1965 they settled in Tucker, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, where they worked and raised their two daughters. Sara was widowed in 1972, and she continued to work in Atlanta as a Federal employee until her retirement. She moved to Napa in 2005 to be near her eldest daughter. Sara particularly enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, and the Atlanta Braves baseball games. Until there were complications from Parkinson’s Disease, her beloved dogs were her constant companions. Survivors include her daughter, Stacy Haygood Price of Gautier, Mississippi, daughter Lynn Haygood Lee of Napa, and son-in-law Andrew Lee of Napa. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband and also: sister Alice Porter of East Point, Florida; brother Horace Pilkinton of Pensacola, Florida; and sister Velma Bedonie of Pensacola, Florida. According to her wishes, Sara will go to her final rest in Pensacola, Florida, when arrangements are finalized. Memorial gifts may be sent to Parkinson.org.
