August 26, 1932 - April 13, 2022
Richard Katzner of Napa, CA passed peacefully in his sleep on April 13, 2022. He was born on August 26, 1932, in Waukesha, WI to Arthur and Laura (nee Lee) Katzner. He joined the military after graduating from Waukesha High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1950 to 1956, including a tour in Korea. He met his wife of sixty-eight years, Angela, at the USO in San Francisco. They were married on December 12, 1953, in San Francisco, CA. After he was discharged from the Marines, he returned to Waukesha and apprenticed as a draftsman. Then the family returned to California where he went to work at Basalt/Dillingham as a draftsman and later became a construction supervisor. He retired after twenty-five years of service. He was a member of Napa Valley Cruisers, Sons in Retirement (SIRS), and the Italian Catholic Federation (ICF). He volunteered at the Napa Firefighters Museum. He enjoyed photography, genealogy, golfing and was an avid car racing fan. He especially loved nurturing his garden and his rose bushes. And, he eventually came to enjoy the birds that built a nest every year in the eaves of his front porch. Richard is survived by his wife, Angela Katzner (nee Zanotti), and his four children, Conni Conrad of Phoenix, AZ; Terri Ward of Napa, CA; Greg Katzner of Fairfield, CA, and Linda Dubnow of Forestville, CA. He was the proud grandfather of ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. The funeral service and reception will be held at St Apollinaris Catholic, 3700 Lassen St, Napa, CA, on Friday, April 29, 2022. The rosary is at 10:30 am, the funeral service is at 11:00 am, and the reception is immediately after. In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation in Richard's name would be welcomed.
