Merriam Lang passed away on May 12, at the age of 85. She was born in Oroville, CA, the youngest of 6 children to Rose and Ralph Nickerson. The family moved to Napa when she was a early teen. She attended St John's Catholic for middle school and graduated from Napa High. After high school she worked for the telephone company where her co-worker and best friend Marie Cole introduced her to husband's friend Alfons Lang who recently arrived from Germany. They married in 1954 and had two children, James and Joanne. She later went to work as a teacher aide at Lincoln Elementary , McPherson Elementary and lastly Silverado Middle School. She was positive and patient with her students and her favorite saying to anyone who was having a bad day is "Things will be better in the morning." Merriam and Al were founding members of St. Apollinaris Catholic Church and her religion was very important to her. She is predeceased by her parents, Rose and Ralph, her sister, Sister Mary James Nickerson, her brothers, Richard, William and Joseph Nickerson, and her son James Lang. She is survived by her husband of 62 yrs, Al Lang, daughter, Joanne Booth, grandson, Nick Booth, brother, Hugh (Pat) Nickerson, sister in law, Pat Nickerson, and daughter in law Joan Lang, along with numerous nieces and nephews and their spouses. The family would like to thanks Cheryl Nickerson for all the help that she gave Joanne. There are not enough words to thank the caregivers at Creek View Place and to Collabria Hospice for the compassion showed to her. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Apollinaris Catholic Church on May 27, 2017 at 10:30am.
