Margaret C. Hendricks

Margaret "Marge" was born at home in St. Helena, CA to Joe and Barbara (Frankenstien) Butala. Marge was the second of 5 children. She attended primary grades at Ursuline Academy on Madrona Ave (now Robert Louis Stevenson school.) She then went to elementary school and graduated from St. Helena High School in 1945. Marge attended San Francisco State College where she received her degree and teaching credential. She began her teaching career at Westwood Elementary school in 1950, now Napa Valley language academy. She also taught at Dee T. Davis and McPherson Elementary. She retired in 1991 after 36 years teaching in a very rewarding profession that she loved. During WWII, Marge met her future husband James Hendricks in St. Helena. They married in 1952 and made their home in Napa, CA. They were blessed with 2 boys, James "Ron" in 1953 and John in 1956. They are her pride and joy. She was a member of State Teachers Retirement system, and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She enjoyed travel and luncheons with her friends from the Friendship Club. Marge is survived by her sons Ron and John Hendricks; Granddaughter Jaclyn Hendricks; Grandsons Alan, Jesse, and Daniel Hendricks of Napa; Brothers Al Butala (Oleta) and Ernie Butala of St. Helena; Nieces Pam and Janet Butala, Patti, Morgan, and Judy Padillo of Napa; Nephews Mike (Kathy), Ken (April), and Mark (Kirsten) Butala. She also leaves first cousins Marg, Rose, Jim, Nellie, and Catherine of the Sagadin family. She was predeceased by her husband James of 38 years in 1988; her Mother and Father; Sister Marian Scruggs; nephew Bob Scruggs; and a baby brother. She was a very private person but enjoyed and appreciated the times she spent with her family, close friends, and acquaintances. Special "Thank You" to her former daughter-in-law Karen Lotridge and her dear friend and neighbor Rita Ferrero for all the love and support when she needed help. A visitation will be held at Claffey & Rota Funeral Home in Napa on Wednesday, February 2nd from 3-4pm. A recitation of the rosary will begin at 4pm. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 3rd at 11am at Tulocay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to your favorite charity.
