Leon Emanuel Moutsos

Leon Emanuel Moutsos died March 3, 2014 in Napa, California. He was born in Denver, Colorado on January 28, 1922. Mr. Moutsos has been a resident of Napa since 1980. He graduated from Adams City High Colorado, Senior Class 1940. Then followed training as a journeyman machinist, was drafted in the WWII US Army and transferred to the 8th Air Force in England and completed 29 bombing missions over occupied Europe as a ball turret gunner in a B24 liberator bomber. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, air medal, European-African-Middle Eastern service medals, 4 battle stars and good conduct medal. He was recalled into the Air Force during the Korean War and assigned at Lowery Air Force Base in Colorado as a technical training instructor in photo intelligence, camera repair and armament. He attended University of Colorado and started his carrier as computer programmer at United Airlines, followed by a second carrier as a system analyst at Bank of America, San Francisco. He retired at age 72. Leon enjoyed sailing and had a lifelong dream of sailing to the Greek Islands. He also enjoyed working in his garage building various projects and entertaining anyone with colorful jokes. Mr. Moutsos leaves behind his wife Irene and his son Emanuel Volakis of Napa. His brother M.E. Moutsos, and nephews of Denver, CO.
