Kenneth George Berg passed away on June 12, 2018. Born at home on March 3, 1925 on a farm near Max, North Dakota, he was one of 9 children in a close family that braved the Great Depression. He served as a radio operator in the Army in the USA and Eritrea, Africa from 1946 to 1948, after which he moved to California and, in 1949 married LaVern Kastner, also from ND. Ken was a quiet person, was dedicated to his family. He loved working in his vegetable garden and seemed to be able to fix just about anything. He was a farmer at heart. He was an active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus and the International Assn of Machinists (IAM) Union, and participated with the Cub Scouts many years ago. He was preceded in death by great grandson Timothy Tyler Berg. He is survived by his wife LaVern Berg; sister Eleanor Wenger of Missouri; daughters Cynthia Stiely (John) of Hilliard, Ohio, and Betty Berg of Sonoma, CA; sons Rodney (Christy), Randy J. (Karen) Berg and Martin Berg of Soldotna, Alaska, and Timothy Berg(Carol) of Napa and Soldotna; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Collabria Hospice at 414 South Jefferson Street, Napa, CA 94559 and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 2725 Elm St, Napa, CA 94558. Viewing hours will be from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 followed by a Rosary Service at 7:30 PM at Claffey & Rota Funeral Home at 1975 Main St., Napa. A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 2725 Elm Street, Napa on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Tulocay Cemetery at 2:00 PM after Mass and reception.
