Maxine Joyce Fiddler

Maxine Joyce Fidler passed away peacefully at her family home in Napa on August 28, 2026, at the age of 92, surrounded by her loving children. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Jim, her first born daughter, Diane, and her eldest son, Jim. Maxine was born in Mount Angel, Oregon to Viola and Tony Rentz. She was raised in Salem alongside her sisters, Norma, Carol, and Eileen, and brother, Paul "Butch" Rentz. All have predeceased her. Maxine met Jim when he was visiting a friend in Oregon. After he returned to California, they maintained their connection through countless letters, and they were married in October 1953. Their loving and devoted marriage spanned 64 years, until Jim's passing in 2017. Family was at the center of Maxine's life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose greatest joy came from time spent with those she loved. She was blessed with a large and loving family, all of whom brought her immense pride and happiness. In addition to her devotion to family, Maxine enjoyed many activities throughout her life. She was an avid archer, enjoyed square dancing, and loved all kinds of card games. Whether gathering around the card table with family and friends or participating in one of her favorite pastimes, she brought enthusiasm, laughter, and a spirited sense of fun that made every occasion memorable. Maxine was devoted to her faith and her community. She was a longtime member and past president of St. John's Young Ladies Institute (YLI #26) and was also an active member of the St. Apollinaris Women's Guild. Her commitment to service and fellowship allowed her to form many lasting friendships and contribute meaningfully to the organizations she cherished. In 1985, Maxine began working at Napa Valley Physical Therapy as a therapist aide. She enjoyed her work there immensely and took great pride in helping others. The friendships she made and the relationships she built during her years there remained a special part of her life. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children and their families: Larry (Cathy), Greg (Jeanie), Sandi Harvey (Floyd), Paul (Trudy), Mark (Kathleen), Carol Lalonde (Greg), and Steven (Megan); her 24 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; as well as her extended family and many friends whose lives she touched with her kindness, warmth, and enduring love. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Apollinaris Catholic Church, 3700 Lassen Street, Napa, on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall. A Rosary will be prayed for Maxine at Claffey and Rota Funeral Home, 1975 Main St., Napa, on Thursday September 24, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. "Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day."
