Eleanor Katherine Devita Peterson

Eleanor Katherine Devita Peterson passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 30, 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona. Eleanor was born March 25, 1920 in Napa to Percy and Agatha Devita. She graduated from Napa High School in 1938 and worked for the J.C. Penney Company for over thirty years. Since December 2014, Eleanor lived in Phoenix, Arizona in order to be close to her only child, Michael, and his family. After her retirement, Eleanor enjoyed traveling the world and doing her daily crossword puzzles. However, her greatest joys were spending time with her family members, tending to her flower garden, lunches and/or dinners with her lifelong friend, Dorothy Rossi, and caring for her parents in their declining years. She was an accomplished and passionate caregiver, being recognized by the Queen of the Valley Hospital as Caregiver of the Year. Eleanor was a long-time member of the Sons of Italy, the Navy League, and the Elks Club, along with many other organizations. During the past twenty years, she frequently accompanied her beloved sister-in-law Emma “Pat” Devita on Pat’s trips to casinos in Las Vegas, Reno, and Lake Tahoe, as well as closer venues. Eleanor is survived by her son, Michael Preston Green, and daughter-in-law Karen; grandson Brandon Green and daughter-in-law Jessica; granddaughter Shannon Noelle Green, and great-grandchildren Michael Rhoads, Carson Rhoads, Colby Green, Beckett Green, and Hudson Green – all of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by her nieces Debra Braden (Jim) and Cindy Turner (Al) of Napa, and niece Pam Fowers and nephew Timothy Chaffin (Robin) of Sacramento, as well as twelve great nieces and nephews. Eleanor was predeceased by her husbands: Leslie Green, Robert Hippenstiel, and Robert Peterson, her parents Percy and Agatha Devita, brother Francis Devita, sister-in-law Emma “Pat” Devita, and sister Lucille Chaffin. A service will be held at Claffey and Rota Funeral Home at 1975 Main Street, Napa, California 94558 at 9:00 AM on Friday, August 4, 2017, with internment following at Tulocay Cemetery, 411 Coombsville Road, Napa, California 94558. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Sherman Home, Hospice of the Valley 5801 East Mayo Boulevard Phoenix, Arizona 85054 or Banner Alzheimer’s Institute 901 East Willetta Avenue Phoenix, Arizona 85006.
